Shocking Video Released of Deadly Mudslide in California

There is a shocking video going viral that shows a slow-moving black river of sludge rolling past the sign for the Oak Glen Steakhouse and Saloon followed seconds later by a surging wave of deeper mud carrying logs on Monday. The mud appeared to be head-high in places the next day.

In the clip, there is a man standing too close to where the sludge is pouring in, and he is forced to run for his life.

Rescuers began searching for missing persons trapped in the mudslide on Tuesday using big yellow tractors plowing through dark, thick sludge.

One of the businesses that w forced to close indefinitely was the Oak Glenn Steakhouse and Saloon. Brandon Gallegos is the co-owner of the business. He wrote on Facebook: “Our building’s covered inside and out by mother nature coming down from these mountains.”

He continued: “We thank you all for your understanding during such a difficult time for our staff and family.”

The man who shot the video footage is Roger Seheult. He told ABC News that he was on his way to pick up his daughters from school when he came upon the slide.

“The next thing I know, it’s wave after wave after wave of mud, debris, coming down from this flash flood.”

Thunderstorms are forecast for this week and more mudslides are possible. Evacuation orders remained in place in parts of the San Bernardino Mountains while a wildfire raging 500 miles to the north forced residents to abandon their homes.

One local resident put things in perspective while talking to NBC News, “It’s part of life. It’s part of living in the mountain. If you want to live in paradise, there’s always some kind of consequence. For us, it’s floods, fires [and] heavy snow.”
