She Saw a Garbage Bag on the Road and It Was Moving…Don’t Miss This Story!

Malissa Sergent Lewis was on her way to work when she saw the most curious thing. She was running late and had taken some back roads as a shortcut to the elementary school in Kentucky where she works. Because she was late, she wanted to just pass it right by, but she could not.

“I saw this trash bag in the road, and I thought to myself, ‘Did I just see that bag move?’ The closer I got, I realized it was moving. I could hardly wrap my mind around that. Something was alive in that bag, and I just knew I had to get whatever it was out,” Lewis said.

This woman was the right person, in the right place, at the right time. She became devastated that it seemed someone had placed a living being in the garbage bag, tied it in a knot, and just left it to suffocate and die.

She still had no idea exactly what was living and moving in that bag, but she decided to give it a chance to live. Malissa got out of her car and approached the bag.

“The bag was tied off in a knot, so I carefully tore a corner and looked inside,” she said. “It was a puppy. And he sure was glad to see me. As soon as I opened it up, and he saw light, he just started wagging his tail. He knew he was OK. I couldn’t believe it.”

Lewis took the puppy to the vet to make sure that he was alright and hadn’t suffered any injuries while tied up in the bag. The puppy was perfectly healthy.

Authorities in her town spread the story around hoping someone would come forward with any information on who the owner might be. There weren’t sure in the owner had done this or possibly the puppy was stolen and left in the bag. They were ready to charge someone with animal cruelty.

“Who could do something like that to any animal? I don’t care who you are; everybody loves puppies,” she said. “It’s a real coldhearted person to put an animal, any animal, in a garbage bag and dump it on the side of the road. They had bad, bad intentions doing that.”

The story ends great! Malissa fell in love with the puppy and now he has a forever home. They named the dog “Hefty!”

“We all love the puppy,” Lewis said. “He’s going to be loved, and have a good home with us. I’m just glad I was in the right place at the right time to save him. That’s what it was.”
