Renowned comedian Dana Carvey revealed on Thursday that his eldest son, Dex, had tragically passed away at the age of 32 due to an accidental drug overdose. Carvey, a well-known figure from his time on “Saturday Night Live,” shared the heartbreaking news via an Instagram Story and subsequently posted the announcement on another platform.

In the announcement, Carvey expressed the deep grief the family is experiencing, characterizing Dex’s death as a terrible tragedy. Dex was remembered as a multifaceted individual with talents in music, art, filmmaking, and comedy. Carvey underscored Dex’s zest for life and his ability to infuse enjoyment into everything, emphasizing his love for family, friends, and his girlfriend, Kaylee. Carvey concluded by describing Dex as a beautiful person, expressing the family’s enduring love for him.

Accompanying the announcement were several photos of Dex, one captioned with a defiant statement against tabloids. Another photo depicted Carvey and Dex working together, with Carvey expressing the joy derived from their collaboration.

According to reports from TMZ, Dex’s girlfriend called first responders to a Los Angeles residence around 10 p.m. Pacific Time on Wednesday. Upon arrival, responders found Dex unresponsive in a locked bathroom, and attempts to revive him proved unsuccessful.

Dex had collaborated with his father in recent years, notably opening for him with a comedy set at the outset of Carvey’s 2016 Netflix special, “Straight White Male.” Carvey’s disclosure concluded with words of support for individuals grappling with addiction, expressing that they are held in the family’s hearts and prayers.
