California Nanny Faces 707 Years for Abuse

Matthew Zakrzewski, a California male nanny, has been sentenced to over 700 years in prison for sexually assaulting 16 young boys over a span of more than three years. The 34-year-old was found guilty on 34 felony counts, including lewd and lascivious acts with a minor under 14. Zakrzewski portrayed himself as “the original Sitter Buddy” on his website, offering various services, including babysitting and mentorship.

The sentencing followed statements from Zakrzewski during which he claimed to have “prided himself on bringing smiles” to the children, characterizing the good times they shared as “100 percent genuine.” Family members of the abused children referred to him as a “master manipulator” in their victim impact statements, expressing anger and requesting no mercy.

The district attorney labeled the case as a loss of innocence and childhood for the 17 children involved, stating that their lives were interrupted by a predator masquerading as a godsend. Zakrzewski, facing a maximum jail time of 690 years to life plus eight years, had been found guilty of the charges in October.

The investigation into Zakrzewski began in May 2019 when a parent reported him to the police for inappropriately touching her eight-year-old son. The Laguna Beach Police Department’s Major Crimes & Intelligence Unit subsequently discovered additional victims through video evidence and tips, leading to more charges.

During the trial, prosecutor Juliet Oliver revealed that Zakrzewski had an “entire book” on pedophilia on his computer and had videotaped most of the evidence against him. The sentencing reflects the severity of the crimes committed by Zakrzewski, who exploited his position as a caregiver to victimize vulnerable children.
