Will and Jada Pinkett-Smith Finally Seen in Public

Will and Jada Pinkett Smith have come out of hiding after Will’s infamous Oscar slap of Chris Rock. The Hollywood couple was spotted enjoying an afternoon together in Malibu on Saturday.

Smith, 53, was wearing a navy blue outfit with a matching hat, and Jada wore a black jumpsuit while they had lunch at the Nobu sushi restaurant on the Pacific Coast Highway. They have been married for 25 years.

They both have stayed clear of the spotlight since Smith slapped Rock across his face after he joked about Jada’s bald head by referencing “G.I. Jane.” She had spoken previously about her struggle with alopecia, which is an autoimmune disorder that causes hair loss.

After the incident, Smith won an Oscar for his role in “King Richard,” and he apologized for his actions.

A few days after the incident, Smith announced his resignation from the Academy saying he had “betrayed the trust of the Academy.”

“I have directly responded to the academy’s disciplinary hearing notice, and I will fully accept any and all consequences for my conduct,” he said.

“My actions at the 94th Academy Awards presentation were shocking, painful and inexcusable. The list of those I have hurt is long and includes Chris, his family, many of my dear friends and loved ones, all those in attendance and global audiences at home. I betrayed the trust of the academy.”

Smith added that he “deprived other nominees and winners” of their chance to be celebrated and said he will accept any further consequences from the board.

“I am heartbroken,” he said. “I want to put the focus back on those who deserve attention for their achievements and allow the academy to get back to the incredible work it does to support creativity and artistry in film. So, I am resigning from membership in the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, and will accept any further consequences the Board deems appropriate.”

After his resignation, the Academy banned Smith from attending the Oscars for 10 years.

This past July, Smith released a YouTube video in which he revealed he reached out to Rock, but the host was not yet ready to talk to him. He went even further in apologizing for his actions and included Chris’ mother, Rose Rock

“I want to apologize to Chris’ mother,” Smith said. “I saw an interview that Chris’ mother did, and, you know, that was one of the things about that moment. I just didn’t realize, and, you know, I wasn’t thinking, but how many people got hurt in that moment,” Smith said.

Rock’s mother, Rose, initially said, “When Will slapped Chris, he slapped all of us, but he really slapped me.”

“So I want to apologize to Chris’ mother,” Smith continued. “I want to apologize to Chris’ family. Specifically, Tony Rock [Chris’ younger brother]. You know, we had a great relationship. Tony Rock was my man. And this is probably irreparable.”
