Former vice president Dick Cheney just released a video in support of his daughter, Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.). But this clip is less about her and more about former President Donald Trump.
The former vice president said that Trump is a “coward” and the greatest threat to the nation in its 246-year history.
“He is a coward,” Cheney says in the ad, which was released Thursday. “A real man wouldn’t lie to his supporters. He lost his election, and he lost big. I know it, he knows it, and deep down I think most Republicans know it.”
Liz Cheney will face hard reelection this year due to her leadership of the House Select Committee and their interrogation of the January 6 capitol riot. The primary will take place on Aug. 16 and it will be for Wyoming’s sole congressional seat. Cheney will be running against Trump-backed Harriet Hageman who is favored to win.
Dick Cheney said that Trump, “tried to steal the last election using lies and violence to keep himself in power after the voters had rejected him.”
“In our nation’s 246-year history, there has never been an individual who is a greater threat to our republic than Donald Trump,” Dick Cheney says at the very beginning of the video.
Cheney is focused on swaying the Wyoming voters in his daughter’s favor. He’s wearing a white cowboy hat and speaks right at the viewers.
He said that he and his wife, Lynne Cheney are proud of Liz for “standing up for the truth, doing what is right, honoring her oath to the Constitution when so many in our own party are too scared to do so.”
Liz Cheney has frequently criticized Donald Trump and has drawn his fire on many occasions.
Her dad said, “Liz is fearless. She never backs down from a fight. There is nothing more important she will ever do than lead the effort to make sure Donald Trump is never near the Oval Office again. And she will succeed.”
