Actor Kiefer Sutherland is once again facing legal trouble after an alleged altercation with a rideshare driver in Los Angeles, an incident that resulted in his arrest and release on bond earlier this week.
According to arrest records obtained by Fox News Digital, the 59-year-old actor was taken into custody on Monday, Jan. 12, and later released the same day after posting a $50,000 bond.
Sutherland is scheduled to make his first court appearance related to the incident on Monday, Feb. 2, at the Los Angeles Superior Court. The Los Angeles Police Department confirmed that officers responded to a call regarding an assault involving a rideshare driver at approximately 12:15 a.m. near the intersection of Sunset Boulevard and Fairfax Avenue, an area known for its nightlife and late-night traffic.
According to LAPD officials, their investigation concluded that Sutherland entered a rideshare vehicle and allegedly physically assaulted the driver. Police further stated that Sutherland made criminal threats toward the driver during the encounter.
Officers arrested Sutherland at the scene on suspicion of making criminal threats, a charge that can carry serious consequences under California law depending on the circumstances and evidence presented.
Authorities noted that the driver did not sustain injuries requiring medical treatment at the scene, and the investigation remains ongoing. At the time of reporting, Sutherland’s representatives had not responded to requests for comment from Fox News Digital.
While the incident is still under review, it is not the first time Sutherland’s name has appeared in police reports.
In May 2009, the actor was charged with third-degree assault following an incident after the Met Gala, where he was accused of head-butting fashion designer Jack McCollough. That case ultimately did not proceed, as the charge was dropped after both parties reached a private resolution.
At the time, Sutherland publicly expressed regret over the altercation. In a joint statement, he apologized for the incident and acknowledged McCollough’s injury, while McCollough accepted the apology and said he wished Sutherland well. The matter was considered settled, and no further legal action followed.
