Middle East City Turns Into A Lake – VIDEO

Travel authorities in Dubai are advising travelers to stay away from the airport after the United Arab Emirates was hit with a severe thunderstorm. The country, known for its arid climate, experienced more than a year and a half’s worth of rain in just a few hours yesterday, causing chaos and destruction throughout the region.

Authorities have urged people to avoid the airport, which was battered by the heavy rainfall. Dozens of flights were canceled and passengers were forced to take shelter inside the terminal as the rain poured down and flooded the roads. Shocking videos shared on social media showed flooded cars and people frantically trying to seek higher ground.

Dubai’s airport, the busiest in the world for international travel, was hit hard by the storm. Runways and taxiways were submerged in water and flights were disrupted. The airport was forced to close for almost an hour before gradually resuming operations. According to meteorological data collected at Dubai International Airport, the city received 0.79 inches of rain late on Monday, followed by another 5.59 inches over the next 24 hours. This is more than the average yearly rainfall of 3.73 inches.

The storm intensified throughout the day on Tuesday, causing widespread flooding and destruction. In Ras al-Khaimah, the country’s northernmost emirate, a 70-year-old man tragically died after his vehicle was swept away by floodwater. The government canceled school and instituted a work-from-home policy as the clean-up operation continued. The hereditary rulers of the UAE have not yet released any information on the extent of the damage or any reported injuries.

At Dubai International Airport, passengers slept on the floor and waited for updates from their respective airlines as the storm raged on outside. The airport advised people to check with their airlines for any flight delays or cancellations and to avoid unnecessary trips to the airport. The National Center of Meteorology issued warnings for residents to take precautions and stay away from areas affected by flooding.

The storm also caused disruptions in other countries in the region. In Oman, at least 18 people were killed due to heavy rains over the past few days. And in neighboring Bahrain, strong winds and thunderstorms have caused severe disruptions. Other countries, such as Saudi Arabia and Kuwait, have also issued warnings for impending thunderstorms.

In Dubai, the city’s infrastructure struggled to cope with the heavy rainfall. Roads, buildings, and shops were flooded, and cars were swept away by the strong currents. The incidents caused chaos and panic among residents, as they sought shelter from the unexpected storm. Authorities have sent out police and military personnel to help with evacuations and rescue efforts. The situation remains critical as weather conditions are expected to continue for the next few days.

The storm, described as an “exceptional weather event,” has brought to light the vulnerability of the region to extreme weather conditions. The UAE and Oman have warned that climate change may lead to more frequent and severe weather events in the future. While it is difficult to link individual weather events to climate change, scientists have noted that it increases the likelihood and strength of extreme weather.

The extreme weather has also raised concerns about the safety and preparedness of the country’s infrastructure. With climate change becoming a pressing concern, authorities may need to review their disaster management plans and invest in stronger infrastructure to mitigate the effects of extreme weather events. As the clean-up and recovery continue in the UAE, officials are urging people to stay safe and be vigilant in the face of unpredictable weather conditions.
