Memphis, Tennessee was struck with tragedy on Saturday night when a shooting occurred at a block party, leaving two people dead and 14 others injured. According to Memphis Police Chief Cerelyn Davis, the shooting was reported at around 7:19 p.m. and is believed to have resulted from at least two individuals firing weapons.
The incident took place at a block party that was attended by an estimated 200 to 300 people. Davis stated in a press conference that upon arriving at the scene, they found five individuals suffering from gunshot wounds. Unfortunately, two of the victims, both males, did not survive and three others were rushed to local hospitals for treatment.
In addition to the five victims found at the scene, another 11 individuals with gunshot wounds sought medical attention at nearby hospitals. Davis mentioned that the victims were transported privately, which suggests that they left the scene on their own accord.
The police have not yet released any information about the suspects or a possible motive for the shooting. However, Davis confirmed that they believe there were at least two individuals responsible for firing the weapons. It is unclear if the suspects were among the attendees at the block party or if they had fled the scene before the police arrived.
