Maria Menounos is opening up about her secret battle with stage 2 pancreatic cancer. The former E! News host, 44, revealed the news in an interview with People magazine published Wednesday.
Menounos said she was diagnosed with the disease in January after experiencing severe abdominal pain. She underwent surgery to remove a tumor and is now in remission.
“I had that moment where I thought I was a goner — but I’m OK because I caught this early enough,” Menounos told People.
The TV personality said she was inspired to share her story in hopes of helping others who are battling cancer.
“I want people to know there are places they can go to catch things early,” Menounos said. “You can’t let fear get in the way. I had that moment where I thought I was a goner — but I’m OK because I caught this early enough.”
Menounos said she is grateful for the support of her family and friends during her cancer battle. She is also thankful for the medical team that helped her through her treatment.
“I’m so grateful to be alive,” Menounos said. “I’m so grateful to my doctors and nurses. I’m so grateful to my family and friends. I’m so grateful for the outpouring of love and support. I’m so grateful to God for granting me a miracle.”
Menounos is now focused on her recovery and spending time with her loved ones. She is also planning to return to work soon.
“I’m so excited to get back to work,” Menounos said. “I’m so excited to get back to my life. I’m so excited to be here.”
