Christian Drama ‘The Chosen’ Takes A Dramatic Turn

Faith-based series “The Chosen” dropped its highly-anticipated Season 4 trailer on Monday, teasing fans with a glimpse of the trials and tribulations that Jesus and his followers will face in the upcoming season. The emotional two-minute-plus trailer hints at “the coming darkness” that will test the faith of those closest to Jesus.

Set in the time of Jesus, “The Chosen” follows the stories of his disciples and those around him, exploring the impact of his teachings and the challenges they faced. The show has gained a dedicated fan base for its authentic portrayal of biblical characters and its focus on the human emotions and struggles they face.

The Season 4 trailer shows a worried Jesus, played by Jonathan Roumie, and his followers in distress. A voiceover speaks about the meaning of “darkness” and how it tests the strength of one’s faith. The trailer also features familiar religious imagery, such as Jesus and his followers standing in front of the tomb where he was buried and eventually resurrected.

The official description of the upcoming season sheds light on the conflicts and challenges that Jesus and his disciples will face. “Clashing kingdoms. Rival rulers. The enemies of Jesus are closing in while His followers are struggling to keep up, leaving him to carry the burden alone,” it reads. “Threatened by the reality of Jesus’ growing influence, religious leaders do the unthinkable—ally with their Roman oppressors.”

Creator and director Dallas Jenkins expressed his excitement for the new season, which will be released first exclusively in theaters. “Last year we dipped our toes in the water by releasing a few episodes in theaters. The response was so strong, and Season Four is so big, that we knew we and Fathom had to give viewers the theatrical experience for all eight episodes,” Jenkins said.

Fathom Events CEO Ray Nutt also shared his enthusiasm for the partnership, stating, “We’re excited to make history with The Chosen. This collaboration has been such an amazing experience! Watching the fans come out in such large numbers to watch the story of Jesus on the big screen has been both informative and heartwarming. We look forward to bringing Season 4 to theaters so those fans can continue to share this story together.”

The first three episodes of Season 4 will hit theaters on February 1, 2024, and will run for two weeks. The next three episodes will be released on February 15, and the final two episodes will hit the big screen on February 29, giving fans the full theatrical experience of the season.

Tickets for “The Chosen” Season 4 went on sale on Monday and can be purchased on Fathom Events’ website. With the overwhelming response to the previous theatrical releases, it is expected that Season 4 will be a blockbuster success as well.
