10-Year-Old Shark Attack Victim Inspiring Many with Positivity – Watch

A 10-year-old boy had to have one of his legs amputated just below the knee after he was tragically bitten by a bull shark last week. Jameson Reeder Jr. of North Carolina was vacationing with his family in the Florida Keys last week.

The boy was attacked by the shark at about 4:30 pm on August 13th. His family was snorkeling at Love Key Reef according to a report by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.

The bull shark was believed to be 8 feet long and bit the boy just below his knee according to a Facebook post by Joshua Reeder, Jameson’s uncle.

The uncle wrote that he was able to stay afloat after the bite and was pulled aboard a boat while a tourniquet was applied to his leg.

Jameson was airlifted to a children’s hospital in Miami.

The leg was amputated to save the boy’s life due to the damage done by the shark.

“They said the shark made the decision for him and wasn’t anything they could do to save it,” he continued.

This is the fourth shark attack off the coast of Monroe County in Florida since April, according to the Miami Herald.

Jameson’s uncle shared an update on his condition this week.

“The more we talk together and learn about the facts of how everything unfolded, the more and more evident it appears that it is a pure miracle he is still alive and with us today,” Reeder wrote.

The 10-year-old will be having another surgery on Wednesday so that doctors can clean up around the knee and make sure there is no infection. They will also see that the muscle and bone are able to receive the next steps.

Reeder also talked about how well Jameson is handling this traumatic situation.

“I cannot say enough amazing things about Jameson Jr. and his attitude through the whole thing,” he wrote. “His outlook on this massive life change seems very positive so far.”

Reeder added that his nephew is already setting physical therapy goals so he can go home from the hospital.

“While you can see the shock and emotions processing in his eyes, you can still see this bright light of positivity shining through,” Reeder wrote. “It really is incredible and inspiring.”
