It’s the proverbial “tiger by the tail.” That is what it must have been like to attempt to tame the great Robin Williams to do an interview on a talk show. Can you imagine how the interviewer like Carson or Leno must have felt?
They were absolutely out of control and under the power of William’s antics. He would literally steal the show, and that is probably exactly what they wanted him to do, and what we wanted him to do. That is why we loved him so much.
So even years after this icon’s death, he is still about to surprise us and make us laugh. Someone has gone to the trouble of digging up past performances on talk shows doing what he did best, improvising and making us belly laugh.
Below is an amazing compilation of Robin Williams just taking over interviews with his brilliance. In the 10 minute clip, he moves from talk show to talk show and upstages the host over and over again.
In one clip, Williams talks about how easy it used to be to fly on an airplane before 9/11. He moves from accent to accent and jokes about not being able to bring a fingernail clipper on a flight because someone might threaten to clip someone’s hangnail.
There’s an other clip with Leno where Williams starts to explain why he wore tape over his mouth at an event. But he starts speaking strangely and tells the audience he had to go into the witness protection program…you just have to see it to appreciate it.
