How many of us remember watching our children leave the nest and move out to start their own life? It’s never an easy transition.
If you want proof, just ask Tim McGraw.
The country singer, 55, is sharing how he felt while helping his eldest daughter, Gracie, 25, move to California.
McGraw, a father of three, appeared on Audacity’s “Rob + Holly” podcast on March 13. He shared how it was “tough at first” to let his little girl go.
“It’s always harder on mom than it is on dad, I think, but there were a lot of tears,” he said.
McGraw has two other daughters, Maggie, 24, and Audrey, 21. Their mother is iconic country singer Faith Hill. He went further sharing their story of Gracie leaving the nest.
“I drove my daughter to L.A. when she moved out there, I drove cross-country with her. I took all the seats out of my Cadillac Escalade and loaded it up with all of her stuff,” he said.
This trip was a special bonding experience for the father-daughter team, but it also had some challenges for them.
“When I dropped her off, I just lost it,” he said. “And then I had to drive home all by myself. I was crying the whole time.”
We will all get to share in some of McGraw’s emotions when his new album comes out, it will include a new song about the emotional moment.
“I called (my guitar player Bob Minner) when I was driving back from dropping Gracie off and was just having sort of a heart-to-heart about dropping my daughter off,” he explained.
Gracie will follow in her famous parent’s footsteps in the music world. She shared her vocal skills on Instagram last summer and sang a song from the Broadway hit “Wicked.”
