Security Cam Catches Heroic Dog Save His Furry Friend From Certain Death

This is not a rerun of a Lassie show, but it has all the drama found in one. The world is watching a video clip from Lopburi, Thailand. It shows a dramatic rescue of a puppy that is on the verge of drowning.

The hero of the story is not the owner, or a stranger in the right place at the right time. It is a dog that seems to run into the scene out of nowhere to save the puppy’s life.

The puppy is having trouble keeping its head above water in a fish pond. There’s a surveillance camera that captures the little white dog named Soh.

From nowhere, a larger dog named Hand comes running to the puppy and pulls Soh out of the fish pond. It is clear that Hand heard the cries for help from the puppy, he runs to the scene with a purpose, to save the day.

This much watch clip has hit a nerve around the globe. It shows the innate ability a dog has for critical thinking and possibly even compassion. The older dog fulfilled his role and saved the pup.

There is a study from the Messerli Research Institute at the University of Veterinary Medicine Vienna that found that dogs can behave altruistically toward one another. They will share their food, especially if they are familiar with the other dog.

“Dogs truly behave pro-socially toward other dogs,” the study, published in Science Daily, said. “That had never been experimentally demonstrated before. What we also found was that the degree of familiarity among the dogs further influenced this behavior. Prosocial behavior was exhibited less frequently toward unfamiliar dogs than toward familiar ones.”

What’s interesting is that dogs do not show that same level of altruism when sharing their food with humans. So don’t hold your breath, you dog is probably not going to share a treat with you.
