There is a revolution happening in American public education and it’s not good. The latest evidence was found in the “woke” efforts of a teacher featured on TikTok.
A high school English teacher recently posted a video in which she expressed this deep concern: “As an educator, I am constantly worried if I am part of the problem. What do I mean by that? Well, public education is an institution that upholds lots of problematic systems in our society.”
She went on to describe some of those systems: White Supremacy, Misogyny, and Colonization.
She then said, “In my role as an educator, I try to undermine that B.S. in my classroom as much as I possibly can.”
Here’s where it gets crazy, she gives these examples of white wickedness wrecking education.
These are our literary-composition customs: Start with an introduction that includes a thesis; always cite your sources; use transition words like “however” and “therefore.”
She said that all of these are just made-up ruled created by Westerners in power, they are “arbitrary.”
Then this teacher references author April Baker Bell’s book Linguistic Justice: Black Language, Literacy, Identity, and Pedagogy.
The description of this book from the publisher’s website says, “Bringing together theory, research, and practice to dismantle Anti-Black Linguistic Racism and white linguistic supremacy, this book provides ethnographic snapshots of how Black students navigate and negotiate their linguistic and racial identities.”
It goes further indicating that the book “captures the linguistic violence, persecution, dehumanization, and marginalization Black Language-speakers endure when using their language in schools and in everyday life.”
So this high school teacher decided to start her school year by honoring how we talk instead of how to “write properly.”
Teaching a student to “write properly” means that we are giving in to “white supremacy.” That is what is happening in the “woke” revolution in our public education.
