NHL Reporter Take A Hard Tumble

In a moment that perfectly captures the highs and lows of live sports reporting, Sportsnet’s Anna Dua took a spill — literally — in the halls of Scotiabank Arena, and the whole country got to witness it.

The rinkside reporter, known for her polished presence and sharp coverage, was caught on a hallway camera faceplanting while running behind the scenes shortly before puck drop between the Toronto Maple Leafs and the New York Rangers. And if falling in front of a camera wasn’t bad enough, it happened right in front of the entire Rangers squad during their warmups.

To her credit, Dua owned the moment — live on air. As she gave her pregame injury update, colleague David Amber couldn’t resist the perfect setup:

“I thought you were going to mention your injury… didn’t you wipe out 20 minutes ago?”

With a sheepish grin and a head slump, Dua laughed it off and confirmed the mishap, saying she hoped they’d get footage to share with fans. And sure enough, she delivered, later posting the video and the on-air banter to her social media — turning the incident into a viral moment of humility, humor, and professionalism all in one.

This isn’t Dua’s first time handling the unexpected. With a solid background in hockey — from playing competitively to coaching in the Washington Capitals’ academy system — she’s long understood that getting knocked down is just part of the game. What matters is the recovery. And judging by the laughs from fans and colleagues alike, she stuck the landing — metaphorically, at least.

A Toronto Metropolitan University grad (formerly Ryerson), Dua’s career has seen a swift rise through the hockey media ranks: from gameday operations with the Leafs, to contributions at NBC Sports, to a stint with the NHL itself. Her return to Canada in 2024 marked a homecoming — and a new chapter as one of Sportsnet’s most recognizable young faces.

Falling in front of an NHL roster is the kind of story most reporters would bury. Anna Dua posted the tape herself. That’s what makes her stand out.
