New Orleans Weatherman Arrested Following Domestic Incident

A violent domestic incident in New Orleans has left a local news figure facing serious criminal charges and a community asking hard questions about what happens when private life spills into public view.

Devon Lucie, the newly named chief meteorologist at WDSU, was arrested early Sunday after authorities say an argument with his longtime girlfriend escalated into physical violence while her children were in the home.

According to arrest documents obtained by local media, the confrontation began after a festival outside New Orleans, where the couple reportedly parted ways and the woman was left without a way to get home.

She later returned with the help of her mother — and, unable to enter their shared residence because she did not have a key, is accused of prying the door open. The dispute continued inside the house, and detectives allege that Lucie went into the bedroom and “punched her several times” while the children slept on the living-room couch.

The woman told police she fought back in self-defense, and deputies noted she had multiple small cuts and scratches across her upper body. Court records indicate Lucie sustained cuts to his face as well; a booking photo released after his arrest shows visible facial injuries.

He is charged with felony domestic abuse battery with child endangerment and a misdemeanor count of resisting an officer for refusing to identify himself, per the affidavit.

These allegations are grave on several fronts. First, domestic violence is a severe criminal matter in its own right — but when children are present, charges can escalate and the social ramifications multiply.

Child endangerment carries weight not just legally but morally, triggering protective services inquiries, potential custody disputes, and lasting emotional fallout for young witnesses.

Second, the accused’s public profile complicates the story. As chief meteorologist — a role that places him in living rooms during storms and on social media as a trusted voice — the accusations will inevitably reverberate through viewers and colleagues, prompting calls for accountability from his employer and the community.
