Man Hid For Hours To Go On Junk Food Raid Says Police

Let’s talk about an unusual late-night escapade that recently made headlines. A Florida man found himself in hot water after a bizarre junk food and cigarette spree inside a closed Walgreens store. Christopher Morgan, the man in question, was arrested by police in New Smyrna Beach around 3 a.m. on Monday with his pockets stuffed full of candy.

Here’s the story: Morgan entered the Walgreens around 9:40 p.m. and promptly locked himself inside a restroom. He stayed there until around 2:40 a.m., well after the store had closed at 10 p.m.

CCTV footage captured him leaving the bathroom and wandering around the store, helping himself to various items including food and cigarettes. Police believe Morgan purposely hid in the restroom to carry out this late-night heist.

During his unauthorized shopping spree, Morgan indulged in Tostitos spinach dip, chips, Reese’s chocolate, Ghirardelli chocolate bars, Dr. Pepper, and Newport cigarettes. It seems he had quite the feast planned out.

However, his fun came to an abrupt end when an alarm went off, prompting police to respond to the scene. Upon arrival, officers spotted Morgan through the front doors, helping himself to cigarettes behind the counter.

Body cam footage released by the police shows Morgan inside the store, wearing a white T-shirt and sunglasses perched on his head. He was holding several items, including a bottle, as the store alarm blared in the background. When confronted by the police, Morgan seemed to play dumb, telling them, “I came in to use the bathroom,” and claiming it was “probably 11 o’clock.” When asked if anyone else was inside the building, he replied that he didn’t know.

The officers quickly cuffed Morgan, discovering an open Reese’s bar and a packet of cigarettes on him. Morgan resisted efforts to place him in the back of the patrol car and even spat on an officer once inside.

As a result, he was arrested on multiple charges, including burglary of an unoccupied structure, larceny-petit theft, resisting an officer without violence, and battery on a law enforcement officer.

This wasn’t Morgan’s first run-in with the law. Police say he has two prior convictions for larceny-petit theft. His latest escapade at the Walgreens adds another chapter to his legal troubles.
