Kim Kardashian Purchased a Piece of Lady Di’s History

Kim Kardashian now is the proud owner of one of Princess Diana’s precious pieces of jewelry.

The reality TV star bought an amethyst and diamond Atallah Cross that was worn by the Princess of Wales for $197,453, according to Sotheby’s of London.

The cross was worn by Diana on October 27, 1987, while she attended a charity gala in London.

Princess Diana wore a purple velvet Catherine Walker gown that night with the crucifix on the end of a pearl necklace. Four people were bidding on this piece at the auction, but Kardashian won the bid by offering more than double its pre-auction estimate.

The Attallah cross was made in the 1920s by Garrad who had a close friendship with the late princess. Diana’s famous sapphire engagement ring was also designed by Garrard. It is now owned by the new Princess of Wales, the former Kate Middleton.

Diana wore the cross several times over several years. The auction house had this description, “ it is understood that the cross was only ever worn by the Princess, and following her death, it was never seen in public again until now. The cross has a total diamond weight of approximately 5.25 carats and measures approximately 136 x 95mm.”

Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, has also worn Lady Di’s jewelry. She wore the emerald-cut aquamarine solitaire ring Diana wore on her wedding day when she attended the 2022 Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights Ripple of Hope Gala on Dec. 6.

Kate wore the Cambridge Lover’s Knot tiara on November 22 during King Charles III’s first state banquet held at Buckingham Palace.

This isn’t the first famous piece Kardashian has purchased. She wore Marilyn Monroe’s “Happy Birthday” dress to the 2022 Met Gala. Needless to say, she made headlines when she appeared in the famous 1962 dress, some good, some bad.
