House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is making some pretty brash promises about the midterm elections. She appeared on MSNBC’s “The Sunday Show” and said that the Democratic Party would win majorities in the coming election.
The discussion centered on Ukraine, MSNBC host Jonathan Capehart asked, “Let me get your reaction really quickly. Do you think that comment which was made by House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy about a blank check, is that a disqualifying comment for someone third in line to the presidency?”
Pelosi said, “Was I not clear? We are going to win this election.”
Capehart said, “No, I understand.”
Pelosi added, “It may be. I mean, I don’t know if this is disqualifying, but it – people should take that into consideration if they care about democracy. Democracy is on the ballot, not just because of the support for Ukraine, but because of trying to nullify elections, voter suppression, overturning elections because they don’t like the outcome.”
She went further, “But again, democracy on a ballot, we want it to be strong. The planet on the ballot, we want it to be safe. Our values on the ballot, we want them to be respected, and we fully intend to win. Take it to the bank.”
She talked with other media outlets as well repeating, “We’re going to win this election so I don’t even entertain that notion [of a Speaker Kevin McCarthy],” the 82-year-old added. “But it should be of concern to the Republicans.”
Pelosi expressed what some see as delusion when she said, “We know that the public is with us. But it’s about turnout. So I’m excited.”
Pelosi does at least admit Democrats need a better argument about inflation. Then she dismisses inflation as a global problem:
“Inflation’s an issue, but it’s global. It’s global. … What’s [the Republicans’] plan? They ain’t got nothing. When you bring down unemployment, inflation goes up. … So in any case, [President Joe Biden] brought unemployment [down], cut it in half. Inflation is there but it’s global and not as bad as it is in some countries. We’ll have to message it better in the next three weeks ahead. I think we’re in great shape. Other people don’t want to believe that.”
Not sure if she is right…
