Well, folks, this one wasn’t even close. Tiffany Henyard, the embattled Democratic mayor of Dolton, Illinois, just suffered what can only be described as a total political wipeout in Tuesday’s primary election. And to make things even more poetic? She had just predicted she’d win in a landslide. Instead, the voters of Dolton handed her a humiliating defeat, with challenger Jason House obliterating her by a staggering margin—3,896 votes to just 536.
That’s not just a loss; that’s a message. And the message is crystal clear: Dolton has had enough of Henyard’s scandals, mismanagement, and outright corruption.
Henyard took office in 2021, but instead of leading, she made national headlines for all the wrong reasons. From accusations of financial mismanagement to alleged civil rights violations, lawsuits, and even a physical brawl at a board meeting last month—her tenure has been a complete disaster.
And the money? Gone.
A federal subpoena issued last year sought Dolton’s financial records after reports surfaced of the mayor taking expensive out-of-state trips on the taxpayer’s dime. If that wasn’t bad enough, former Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot—yes, that Lori Lightfoot—was brought in to investigate Dolton’s finances. What she found was astonishing: the village’s general fund went from a $5.6 million surplus in 2022 to a $3.6 million deficit by 2024.

Let that sink in. In two years, Henyard managed to burn through millions of dollars, with little to no accountability. Suspicious credit card purchases, shady bookkeeping, and a mayor who acted more like a queen than a public servant—it’s no wonder Dolton voters couldn’t wait to send her packing.
Ahead of the election, Dolton residents didn’t mince words about their frustration.
“The way that the present mayor has been doing things just hasn’t been sitting right with me,” voter Sharon Hunley told Fox 32.
Another voter, Regan Lewis, put it even more bluntly: “We’re kinda like a joke. It’s not a good thing, it’s embarrassing.”
And let’s be honest—when your own town starts feeling like an embarrassment, the writing is on the wall.
Jason House, a village trustee and former ally of Henyard, saw the corruption up close—and decided Dolton deserved better. Running on a platform of transparency and reform, House promised to clean up the mess Henyard left behind.
“Not only is Ms. Henyard depriving the public of what they deserve, it’s costing the village money,” House said on Election Day. “Day one, every record will be turned over.”
That kind of message clearly resonated, because House didn’t just win—he destroyed Henyard at the polls.
