Fans Surprised After Seeing NFL Broadcaster’s Hands

It’s not often that the chatter surrounding Sunday Night Football veers away from the action on the field to focus on the announcers.

Yet, during a recent snowy showdown in Orchard Park, New York, fans found themselves preoccupied—not with touchdowns or defensive plays—but with the curious appearance of NBC color commentator Cris Collinsworth’s hands.

As the San Francisco 49ers took on the Buffalo Bills, the broadcast occasionally cut to the booth, offering glimpses of Collinsworth alongside play-by-play veteran Mike Tirico.

But it wasn’t the commentary duo’s analysis that sparked conversation—it was the stark discoloration on the tops of Collinsworth’s hands. Darker than his fingers or the rest of his hands, the unusual hue left viewers puzzled, concerned, and, in some cases, amused.

Social media lit up as fans speculated and joked about the longtime broadcaster’s visible discomfort in the frigid conditions. Some viewers expressed genuine concern, like sports content creator Brianna Pirre, who quipped, “Can we get Cris Collinsworth some gloves or something? The man’s hands are blue???”

Others leaned into humor, likening his hands to fantastical imagery. One fan compared them to Dumbledore’s cursed hand from Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, while another mocked Collinsworth’s familiar style with, “Here’s a guy who’s hand might be dead.”

For Collinsworth, this wasn’t the first time his hands had taken center stage during a broadcast. Earlier this season, a similar episode during a Steelers-Cowboys matchup sparked a comparable wave of reactions.

Still, the cause behind the discoloration remains unclear. Is it simply the result of extreme cold, a circulation issue, or something else entirely? NBC has not commented, and Collinsworth himself has stayed silent on the matter.
