In a world increasingly reliant on convenience, the dark side of delivery culture has never been more viscerally illustrated than in the case of Mark Cardin and his wife’s Sunday night meal — a dinner that ended not with satisfaction, but choking, vomiting, and a chilling mystery caught on camera.
It began innocently enough. The couple had ordered from Arby’s through DoorDash, expecting nothing more than a quiet meal. But within moments of his wife taking the first few bites, the evening spiraled into chaos.
“She started choking and gasping,” Cardin recalled in an interview with 14 News. “After a couple bites of her food, she actually threw up.” That’s when Cardin’s instincts — and his doorbell camera — kicked in.
The footage he reviewed is disturbing. A woman with purple hair — the DoorDash driver — is seen placing the food on the doorstep, taking the standard photo for delivery verification… and then appearing to spray something onto the food bag.
What she allegedly sprayed remains unconfirmed, but Cardin’s theory is unnerving: pepper spray. The implications, however, stretch far beyond discomfort.
“It could’ve been rat poison, it could’ve been fentanyl,” Cardin said. “My wife could’ve been dead.” The potential for harm, even death, reframes the incident from a disgusting prank to something far more malicious — and potentially criminal.
The Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed an investigation is underway. As of now, no charges have been filed. But under Indiana law, consumer product tampering can lead to a Level 6 Felony — or a Level 5 if injury occurs.
And while DoorDash promptly issued a refund, the couple was left shaken by what they perceive as a lack of urgency or accountability. “I definitely want to see her prosecuted,” Cardin insisted.
The delivery driver has not yet been named, and DoorDash has not commented publicly. But the question now looms: how safe is your next order… really?
