The Coca-Cola Company, taking note of President-elect Donald Trump’s well-documented love for Diet Coke, has presented him with a special commemorative bottle ahead of his historic second inauguration. Coca-Cola chairman and CEO James Quincey personally delivered the bottle to Trump, continuing a company tradition of celebrating U.S. presidential inaugurations with limited-edition bottles—a practice that began in 2005.
In a statement to Fox News Digital, Coca-Cola highlighted its long-standing economic contributions to the United States while honoring Trump’s upcoming inauguration.
“The Coca-Cola Company has a tradition of creating commemorative Coca-Cola bottles in celebration of U.S. presidential inaugurations, dating back to 2005,” the spokesperson said. “James Quincey, CEO of The Coca-Cola Company, met with President-elect Donald Trump to present a commemorative bottle of Diet Coke and to highlight Coca-Cola’s contributions to the U.S. economy.”
The company also emphasized its significant impact on the American workforce. “With over 60 bottling partners, we generate $58 billion in U.S. economic activity and support 860,000 jobs annually. This meeting reinforces our commitment to strengthening America’s economic future,” the statement added.
The custom Diet Coke bottles, which will not be available for sale, will be distributed to the White House and various inauguration events as a symbolic gesture. For Trump, who famously consumes Diet Coke as though it’s water, the gesture feels both fitting and ironic.
Trump’s relationship with Coca-Cola is an interesting one, full of contradictions. The New York Times reported in 2017 that Trump drinks up to 12 Diet Cokes a day, making his fondness for the beverage practically legendary.
Yet, back in 2012, long before his political career took off, Trump tweeted, “I have never seen a thin person drinking Diet Coke,” followed just two days later by, “The Coca Cola company is not happy with me—that’s okay, I’ll still keep drinking that garbage.”
Despite the occasional jab at Coca-Cola, Trump’s love for Diet Coke has remained unwavering, and the beverage has practically become a part of his public persona. The custom commemorative bottle marks a humorous and symbolic acknowledgment of this peculiar connection as Trump prepares to take the oath of office once again.
