Well, this one’s a curveball — Marcus Morris Sr., the veteran NBA forward and twin brother of Markieff Morris, just found himself in some serious legal trouble.
According to police records, the 35-year-old was arrested Sunday in Broward County, Florida, on a felony charge of fraud — specifically for allegedly writing a check with insufficient funds.
The arrest went down at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, and here’s where it gets interesting: the case isn’t even out of Florida.
Morris is reportedly being held on charges from another state, though which state that is hasn’t been disclosed yet. So, we’ve got a multi-state case, a big-name player, and very few answers about the specifics — yet.
For those who might not follow the NBA closely, Marcus Morris isn’t some benchwarmer. He’s had a 13-year career, starting as the 14th overall pick in the 2011 NBA Draft for the Houston Rockets. Since then, he’s played for the Suns, Pistons, Celtics, Knicks, Clippers, Sixers, and most recently, the Cavaliers. The guy’s been around.
But, and this matters, this isn’t his first brush with the law. Back in 2012, he was arrested in Kansas for allegedly punching a bar employee while watching a Kansas-Missouri game. He cut a deal, paid fines, and stayed away from the victim.
Then in 2015, he and Markieff, along with NFL safety Gerald Bowman and two others, were charged in the beating of Eric Hood in Arizona.
That trial ended with the twins and Bowman being found not guilty, though the other two suspects confessed. That case was reportedly the catalyst for the Suns splitting up the Morris brothers in trades.
Now here we are in 2025, and Marcus is back in headlines for all the wrong reasons. Fraud. A felony charge. Held in Florida on a warrant from another state.
No word yet from Morris’ camp, but this could get messy fast. For a guy who’s been a steady role player for over a decade, this latest run-in could cast a shadow over whatever’s left of his NBA career.
